The things that set fiber art apart form other mediums are the texture and dimension of the art. The Chinese Peony was an exploration of those properties. leaves concocted only from thread, delicate flower petals painted with Japanese inks and then burned, and stitching that overflows the borders of the piece. Shapes that are given more dimension with additional wool become even more dramatic.
It is completely mesmerizing to burn the raw edges of the silk. I could sit and do this for hours. I ove the sepia tones of the edges of the petals that make the flower look even more delicate and breathtaking.
